Reported, independently corroborated, held back, withdrawn and unresolved: what each word means here.

Reported

A source carried the statement. This describes attribution, not an independent finding that every detail is correct.

Independently corroborated

More than one independent reporting origin supports the event. Shared ownership, forwarding and copied material can limit independence.

Held back

Considered but not published under the applicable editorial rules. A hold is not a finding that the report is false.

Withdrawn

Previously published and subsequently withdrawn. The permanent record remains available with that status.

Unresolved

The available evidence does not settle the question. It must not be filled with a guess or a default.
