Data Dictionary
What each field means: identifier, dates, status and modality, sources and language, location.
Identifier and address
The event identifier resolves to its permanent page. It persists through corrections and withdrawal. An absorbed page redirects to the survivor after a merge.
Dates
First reported, occurred, published and modified describe different moments. An unknown occurrence time is not the publication time. Dates shown by this service use UTC.
Status and modality
Publication status distinguishes published and withdrawn records. Modality distinguishes an occurrence, a claim and a denial. Neither field substitutes for the other.
Source and language
Source references identify the reporting used. Unrecorded language, unresolved language and an unavailable translation are different states. Original wording is retained separately from translation.
Location
A placement carries the precision justified by its evidence. Unplaced events have no coordinates. The map is a view of the record, so an unplaced event remains available in the stream.
Versioned definitions
This dictionary explains reader-facing fields. A research codebook additionally specifies coded values, assignment rules, examples, limitations and version history. Internal publication arithmetic is not part of public exports.
