Corrections Policy

A correction changes the record at its permanent address; a withdrawal keeps the page and says why.

The same address

A correction changes the record at its permanent address. A withdrawal retains the page, its identifier, the withdrawal status and the stated reason. Published identifiers are not reassigned to other events.

Duplicate pages

When two published events are determined to be the same story, the older address survives. The absorbed address redirects permanently to it so an earlier citation still resolves. A merge and a withdrawal are different changes.

What changed

The event timeline records publication and later changes. An unavailable historical version must be stated as unavailable; today's wording must never be presented as the wording seen at an earlier timestamp.
