First human case of Shamonda virus detected in France

Health officials in France reported the first known human case of the Shamonda virus in an immunocompromised patient receiving treatment in Lyon, who subsequently died. The virus was previously known to occur only in animals. Authorities stated that the precise role of the virus in the patient's death remains unresolved.
