A public ferry carrying 40 passengers and crew ran aground off Xiaoliuqiu while attempting to avoid driftwood amid rough seas, leading to the rescue of all on board. In a separate incident the same day, coast guard personnel launched a search after a person was swept away by waves near the island's Meiren Cave.
