Italy introduces new security measures targeting demonstration violence
The Italian government has approved a new security decree establishing a specific offence for violent participation in demonstrations and deploying 500 soldiers to Milan. The measures allow for the detention of minors and introduce the use of biometric and artificial intelligence tools to identify masked individuals following weekend student protests that resulted in around 50 arrests. The full implementation schedule and legal procedures for preventive detentions have not been specified.
