PJM Interconnection issues emergency alert over heat and scheduled outages

PJM Interconnection declared a low-level grid emergency for Tuesday and Wednesday as elevated temperatures overlapped with scheduled maintenance outages across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. The grid operator, which provides electricity to 67 million people, faced constrained capacity with tens of gigawatts offline for seasonal work. It is not yet clear whether the emergency status led to mandatory power cuts or supply interruptions for consumers.
