Riot police deployed tear gas against hundreds of protesters attempting to prevent the eviction of an 87-year-old disabled resident in Madrid's Retiro district on Wednesday. The demonstration followed the acquisition of the apartment by a developer after the resident had lived there for 71 years. It was not immediately reported whether any arrests or injuries occurred during the confrontations.
