EU ambassadors fail to agree on extending Russian sanctions

European Union ambassadors have failed to reach an agreement to extend sanctions covering approximately 3,000 Russian individuals and companies following opposition from Slovakia and France. Envoys face a one-day deadline to resolve the impasse before the existing measures lapse. It is not yet clear whether compromise terms will be agreed in time.
