Fires reported across multiple neighbourhoods in Bukavu
Fires in Bukavu have destroyed commercial structures in the Nyamugo area and caused student casualties in the Chimpunda neighbourhood, according to local reports. The fire along Avenue Virunga razed a shopping gallery housing dozens of shops and depots, leaving around 80 vendors without work, while a separate fire in Chimpunda reportedly killed 20 pupils and left several injured. Further details regarding the causes of the blazes and full casualty assessments have not been confirmed.
